London Disney The Lion King Musical Show

Disney’s The Lion King is one of the most popular and loved musical stage adaptation of Disney’s hugely successful animated film. The award-winning musical by Disney has made its grand entry into is 19th triumphant year at London’s Lyceum Theatre. The show has entertained over 14 million theatregoers and has become the sixth longest-running musical of all time in London West End.

The story of TheLion King is set against the backdrop of the Serengeti. Under the superb direction of Julie Taymor, the awe-inspiring musical is a complete treat for music lovers! The Olivier Award-winning costumes are also designed by her. The entire stage and auditorium of the Lyceum Theatre has been convincingly transformed into the African plains. The stage is occupied with various animals such as lions, giraffes, birds, zebras, hyenas and even a stampede of wildebeest.


The Lion King is the story of a young lion prince Simba whose birth makes his evil uncle Scar unhappy as he is pushed back to second in line to the throne. Being insecure of his future, he plots to kill both Simba and his father, the Lion King Mufasa to be the king Of The Pride Rock. King Mufasa and Queen Sarabi got killed due to the heinous plot of Scar. However, Young Simba survives the conspiracy and flees the kingdom. Later, he come backs to avenge his father’s death and to be the King.
In the year 1994, the movie version of the Lion King was released and became one of the most popular movies of Disney. The movie version won several awards during the prestigious 1995 Oscars such as awards for Best Music: Original Score for Hans Zimmer’s score and Best Music: Original Song for Elton John and Tim Rice’s Can You Feel The Love Tonight.

The Lion King musical made its Broadway debut at New Amsterdam in the year 1997 and wins six Tony Awards. In the year 1999, the show made its London Westend debut and transferred to the Lyceum Theatre and nominated for eight Olivier Awards.
