According to a
recent announcement made, the technical workers of the popular London Westend
show, The Lion King will be entitled for a 12% total pay rise over the upcoming
two years. This major hike in salary is being referred as “highest theatre
settlement in recent times”. The deal has been signed between union BECTU and
Disney Theatrical UK. The agreement will have a huge impact over 60 members
which are currently working on the musical.
After two days
of discussion at the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service, the deal
has been negotiated. The deal followed after two unsuccessful ongoing
negotiations.
According to the
newly signed deal, rates of technical staff will increase by 8% from August and
4.5% is backdated to August last year. This year’s rise is 3.5% or RPI if
greater. In August 2016, there will be more 3.5% rise.
According to the
deal, the staff of Lyceum Theatre will be
also seen and will be benefitted from sick pay entitlement from the first day
of employment. Earlier, the worker must have six month of employment
with Disney. Moreover, if the workers are called in less than two weeks’
notice, they will be provided with pay of time and a half.
In case, workers
are called in less than one week’s notice, will be also entitled for pay of
time a half. The agreement also offers new arrangement for maternity
entitlements along with updated dispute procedure.
According to
Willy Donaghy, the BECTU supervisory official, “I am delighted members at TheLyceum Theatre. This inflation-busting offer is the highest theatre
settlement in recent times and pays tribute to our reps and members’ hard work”.
